Once in a
Blue Moon
To express that
something is exceptionally rare, we sometimes add the words
"once in a blue moon" for emphasis but how many of us actually
know the true history of that expression and why it is so
relevant?
A "Blue Moon"
(known as a lunation) is the second full moon in one calendar
month. The moon's cycle is 29.531 days so there is a
possibility of two full moons in January, March, May, July,
August, October and December because those months have 31 days.
Two full moons in one month doesn't happen very often. In fact,
it occurs only every 2.72 years. During the 1999 calendar year
there were two "Blue Moons" that appeared in the sky. It was
speculated that this was Mother Nature's way of getting ready to
welcome the new millennium.
A "Blue Moon" is
believed to be a powerful time and is used by many as an
exceptionally perfect opportunity to hold Ceremonies or private
Rituals to celebrate their personal accomplishments and to set
new goals for themselves. Anyone who walks a majical path knows
the Full Moon holds the most powerful majical energy and this
energy is made even more powerful by the addition of two Full
Moons in a month.
The next "Blue
Moon" will appear on New Year's Eve, December 31st. in the year
2009. Many of us already reserve New Year's Eve as a time for
proceeding with the best of intentions and making positive
resolutions for the New Year so, make this New Year's Eve
doubly auspicious.
December 31st.
2009 will make for one marvelous and majical "Blue Moon" so
challenge yourself to create a powerful intention for the new
year, celebrate the path you walk and look forward to your
journey and the majical path ahead. |
