Willow's Binding Spell

By knot of one the Spell's begun

I secure it true by knot of two

By knot of three it stays with me

Forevermore by knot of four

By knot of five it comes alive

And so I fix by knot of six

By knot of seven with help from Heaven

We culminate by knot of eight

By knot of nine I make it mine

This is my plea  So Mote It Be

 "I bind unto myself today, the power of the trinity

I bind unto myself today, the three in one, the one in three."

 The above two lines are a portion of an old Celtic Prayer I heard decades ago and will stay with me forever.  The Trinity spoken of here is Father, Son and Holy Spirit but it took on the meaning of Maid, Mother and Crone to me.  I mention this so you understand that 'Binding' is something that has gone on for centuries by many diverse and different cultures and reasons.  One can Bind good health, good fortune, abundance, love, knowledge, good and bad habits and warm loving people.  Binding Spells can help you protect home and family, Bindings can keep certain people away from you and others people close to you.  We can also Bind a bad habit or aid the success of any venture.  No matter what your wishes are, you can create a Binding Spell for that specific purpose.  You can perform a Binding Spell in memory of a loved one passed and in so doing Bind all of the wonderful memories to you forever.  Binding is making something a part of you, something that will be with you always. 

 Light your candle and state the purpose of your Spell.  The last Binding Spell I performed was in memory of a wonderful person in my life who passed on after a lengthy illness.  Working the Binding Spell gave me the focus I needed to process the unfortunate circumstances of his passing and proceed through the grieving process one step at a time. 

Speak your Binding Spell aloud and each time you say "by knot of" you would tie another knot.  Try and make your knots at intervals along the cord length rather than bunching them up at one end of the cord.  You tie the knots on the first day of your Binding Spell only.  The remaining eight days you finger or touch the knots while reciting the Binding Spell aloud.  Binding is best done during the "New Moon" for decreasing and banishing and during the "Full Moon" for increasing and creating.  You can create a Binding Spell to bind, restrain or restrict but be sure to attempt increasing the energy of the Binding Spell by rhyming.  If you create your own Binding Spell it is not necessary that you rhyme but it should be your focus and goal for the future.   

There is an old Witches' adage that tells us to be cautious with Binding Spells.  "As ye bind, so are ye bound".  We don't want to tie someone up so tightly that we tangle ourselves in the process.                 "Edain McCoy"

* Another form of Binding is to write out your prayer, plea or intent on a slip of paper, roll the paper into a tight mass, and then wrap your paper with black, white or gold thread over and over again until you have a very tight ball.  Secure your threads tightly and keep as a talisman of protection or burn in a ritualistic manner.  Your Protection Ritual of Binding is done.  May the Binding Ritual become a wonderfully majical addition to your life.  

NOTE:    In January of 2008 I formed a group of very majical people who's only wish was to make this a better world "one Binding at a time".  Each month we perform a Binding for "Special Intent".  Our Bindings are chosen from suggestions made by the group and other topics are chosen for their timeliness.  Just a few of our "Special Intent Bindings" were 'mother earth', the 'grieving process', the 'humane treatment of animals both wild and domestic', 'second harvest', 'our fighting troops' and 'peace'.  As you can see, our intent is to Bind for the "good of all".  Each month I create a Binding Spell and send it to all group members.  I include information as to the day the Binding begins and ends, I  recommend a specific colour cord, a crystal and a candle colour for that particular Binding.
